Commemorative coins are legal currency issued by a country to commemorate major events, outstanding figures, places of interest, rare animals and plants, sports events and other aspects of international or national politics, history and culture. They include ordinary commemorative coins and precious metal commemorative coins. Quality for general or refined, limited release.
Ordinary commemorative coins can be circulated, but precious metal commemorative coins are not. Chinese commemorative coins have a specific theme. They are designed and manufactured by China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation and issued by the People's Bank of China as legal tender. Commemorative coins are usually issued to commemorate the important political and historical events, traditional culture and other things of special significance. Ordinary commemorative coins have the same functions as the current circulating RMB, and are circulated at the same value as the same denomination RMB.
On July 12, 2022, the People's Bank of China issued a set of gold and silver commemorative coins of Chinese Calligraphy.
